Windrush Conference

The Windrush Faith Conference, held at the Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre in Birmingham, was a significant event that brought together stakeholders from across the country to discuss the critical role of faith communities in supporting individuals impacted by the Windrush scandal.
Organised by the Windrush National Organisation, the conference featured an array of influential speakers, including representatives from the Home Office and clergy members from various denominations. The event focused on providing solutions and insight into how faith leaders can offer much-needed guidance, support, and advocacy to those navigating the complexities of immigration and the Windrush Compensation Scheme.
Opening Remarks: The conference was welcomed to Birmingham by Councillor Sharon Thompson, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, who emphasised the importance of community collaboration.
A video address from Seema Malhotra MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Migration and Citizenship, also addressed the attendees. Malhotra, who holds a key role in race and migration, offered valuable insight into government efforts.
There were also welcomes from Bishop Dr. Desmond Jaddoo MBE Chair of the Windrush national Organisation and Reverend Clive Foster MBE Vice-Chair. There were also messages from Professor David Mba Vice Chancellor Birmingham City University and Glenda Caesar survivor and Director of the Windrush National Organisation. There was also an inspirational welcome from Bishop Mike Royal General Secretary of Churches Together in England.
Faith Community Involvement: Faith leaders from across the nation participated in the conference, representing diverse religious communities. They provided unique perspectives on how their groups can support the Windrush Generation and their descendants.
Collaborative Discussion: The event featured engaging presentations that underscored the role of faith groups in offering trusted advocacy, guidance, and information to those affected. Home Office representatives also recognized the unique position of faith communities in fostering trust and empowering individuals to access their rights.
Building Stronger Partnerships: At the conclusion of the conference, all attendees left with a shared understanding of the crucial role faith communities will play in assisting the Windrush Generation. The event fostered an environment of greater collaboration between faith groups, government bodies, and advocacy organisations.
Faith leaders reaffirmed their commitment to providing compassionate and informed support, ensuring that individuals impacted by the Windrush scandal receive the help they need. This partnership will continue to be key in achieving justice and securing the rights of the Windrush Generation.
Looking Ahead: The conference marked an important milestone in strengthening the relationship between the Home Office, the Windrush National Organisation, and faith communities. Together, they will continue working to ensure that those affected by the Windrush scandal can rely on trusted support and assistance.

Who we are
WINDRUSH NATIONAL ORGANISATION (WNO) is an assembly of independent advocates, advisors, solicitors, community activists and legislative reformers from around the UK
The WNO was formed to address and overcome barriers affecting the so-called Windrush Generation and their Descendants, living in the UK and abroad, who have the right to UK status and/or compensation.
The WNO Strategy is a communication and engagement road map to empower communities to enhance, improve and deliver the Windrush Status and Windrush Compensation Scheme (WS and WCS).
The WS and WCS have been set up by the Government to help people get the right documents needed
